Multitec S3S Mid Web flexographic press
Mid Web

Overview

Gravure Quality. Digital Agility.

The S3S Mid Web press uses a gearless sleeve system with independent servo-driven print mandrels, chilled impression and anilox cylinders to achieve ultimate precision and print quality. Gearless print units ensure crisp and ultra-precise prints.

An 8-colour press integrates 80+ servo motors across the print, pressure control, infeed, outfeed, unwind and rewind modules. Intelligent systems enable automatic on-the-fly pre-registration and perfect register stability even during acceleration and deceleration.

01 · The Problem

The Market
Demands More.

Converters today are caught between shrinking order sizes, faster turnarounds, and customers unwilling to pay for cylinder tooling. Traditional rotogravure and CI flexo weren't built for this.

Nobody Pays for Cylinders

Traditional flexo and rotogravure weren't built for this.

02 · The Solution

Built to sit between digital and rotogravure.

/ 01
Short-Run Efficiency

Sleeves mount in minutes. Setup waste drops. Jobs under 10,000 running metres become profitable: no cylinder tooling, no client negotiation.

/ 02
Broad Substrate Range

From 11µ aluminium foil to 450 GSM light cartons on the same press. PET, BOPP, PETG, PVC, paper, with print quality to match.

/ 03
Versatile Applications

Flexible packaging, shrink sleeves, in-mould labels, wraparounds, foil lidding, light cartons, all from one platform.

03 · Why Us

Why sleeves
change everything.

Every line is an operational advantage we've measured on the production floor.

0 Reasons to
switch
CriterionS3S · Gearless SleeveCylinder with Gear
Print Precision
No gear play, tighter registration, no gear marks.
Less precise, prone to gear marks from vibration and backlash.
Job Changeovers
Lighter sleeves, easy to mount without mechanical lifting.
Heavy cylinders require mechanical lifting, time and labour.
Operator Fatigue
Sleeves lightweight (< 3 kg), handled by one person.
Heavy cylinders (15–40+ kg) need two operators or lifting devices.
Short-Run Efficiency
Faster setup reduces makeready waste and cost.
Higher setup time and waste, not viable for small runs.
Size-Change Economics
Sleeves very competitively priced vs. geared cylinders.
Geared cylinders cost significantly more than same-sized sleeves.
Maintenance
No gear train, less wear, no backlash maintenance.
Frequent issues with gear trains, alignment and mechanical wear.
Format Change
Infinitely variable repeats in mm or inch, 1:1 to rotogravure.
Fixed range, limited by gear teeth; 1/8” minimum step.
Jointless Printing
True rotogravure match, jointless printing with engraved sleeves.
Joint problem: a non-printing gap from plate pasting.
Press Speed
Stable up to 250 m/min with low vibration.
Limited by mechanical stability, typically ~150 m/min.
04 · The Bottom Line

Right between digital
and rotogravure.

Vibrant colours and sharp detail, a new standard for flexible packaging.

3–5× Faster Changeovers

Streamlined sleeve mounting minimises downtime and maximises sellable output.

Reduced Running Costs

Lower tooling and maintenance costs compound into long-term savings.

Effortless Operation

Ergonomic, gearless handling, less operator effort, less upkeep.

Gravure quality. Digital agility. One press.
